Hi there,
A n00b question here. In synchronet, what type of files are you
supposed to put in the text section (here me out)? Is this for text
files in general or just text files that pertain to the bbs? I ask this because there's also a text files dir in the main file section.

The "general text files area" is for files that can be read by/displayed to Terminal server users (using Telnet, RLogin, or SSH). Typically these are text
files or ANSI "graphics" (CP437 characters with ANSI terminal color sequences and/or cursor positioning sequences).

Ok. Is there any way to import whole directories, like with addfiles?
The documentation is a bit sparse about this.

There's no built-in utility to do this, but it would be trivial to do by hand.
Once you create the area (in SCFG->Text File Sections), just copy the files to
your data/text/<code> directory and put the file names and descriptions in data/text/<code>.ixt. The .ixt file is just a simple text file with the filenames and descriptions, alternating lines:
filename1.txt
Description for filename1
filename2.txt
Description for filename2
etc.

OK, that pretty clear cut. Is there a reason the main file section also
has a text files subsection?

Is there a way, besides typeing in the path of the file, to change the path for that particlar Text. It defaults to create the folder under ..\text\folder
Can I tell sfcg to create or use another folder?

That's just an example/default directory of the "main" library. You can add/remove directories named whatever you like in SCFG->File Areas.
The difference is that the file transfer area can "charge" credits for downloads, enforce ratios, it can use transfer protocols (e.g. ZMODEM), track statistics and sends activity to the uploader. Users can upload files to the file transfer section but not to the general text file sections.

Thanks, that clears it up. Maybe you should also add this to the wiki?
